Prof. P. A George (Ph.D)

Prof. P. A George (Ph.D) is the President of the Japanese Studies Association in South Asia(JSASA). He is also a professor of Japanese language and literature and the current Chairperson of the Centre for Japanese Studies, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has done extensive research in Modern Japanese literature, especially on Shimazaki Toson, Miyazawa Kenji and Ishikawa Takuboku.  George was a recipient of Japan Foundation Fellowship for Junior Faculty Development twice and Teacher Training twice. He was visiting scholar twice to Waseda University, Tokyo, once to Iwate University, Morioka, Japan, twice to International Research Centre for Japanese Studies, Kyoto, Japan, and twice visiting professor to Kwansei Gakuin University, Nishinomiya, Hyogo, Japan. Altogether he has published eighteen authored, edited and translated books.  He also published several Academic Papers in peer reviewed academic journals and edited volumes in Japanese as well as English, both in India, Japan and the USA. A pioneer in introducing Japanese literature to Indian readers, Dr. George is also a known translator of Japanese literature into Malayalam and Indian English directly from Japanese original.

Dr. George was bestowed with the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation (Award) in 2016 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Japanese Studies in India. He is also a recipient of the coveted Miyazawa Kenji Shoreisho Award given by Hanamaki City Government in 2002 for his scholarly achievement and extensive research on Miyazawa Kenji.
